I am thinking (not into planning yet) of buying a SLR camera for some reasons. Logically, SLR cameras are capable of producing excellent and high quality images than ordinary compact digital cameras and this is the mean point why I am a bit keen in owning one. My point-and-shoot digital camera is still performing good and satisfactorily producing good image results but planning of going to the next level of photography, I think an upgrade to SLR digital camera is obviously a good idea. Where to buy this SLR camera? This is a very interesting question that pops in my head.
Well, at first my answer would be at the posh shops inside the malls. But later on I learned from a friend, who is the ship’s professional photographer (a Filipino of course) that the best place to shop for cameras is at the shops selling photography-related items located along Felix R. Hidalgo Street in Quiapo, Manila. Film and digital point-and-shoot or SLR cameras and camera accessories like lenses, flashes, tripods, studio lightings and anything photography-related stuffs are sold much cheaper here compared to the prices at the malls. And if you have the guts in bargaining then you can bring home the camera flashing with your widest smile.
Hidalgo Street is very familiar to me but I have no idea that this is a haven for professional photographers. Every time I visit the St. Nazarene Church I always have to walk from the Carriedo LRT station and passed along the crowded Hidalgo Street. Upper-class individuals may have second thoughts or may seem anxious about visiting Hidalgo Street but as long as you dress simply and not too flashy, you are safe in Hidalgo Street. As long as you know where and when to use your common sense, the question of safety is out of the way.
