Boracay is a tropical resort island in the Philippines and a major tourist destination in the country situated off the northwest end of the island of Panay. Getting to Boracay Either you go for the high-speed airplane ride over lengthy ferry trip to get to Boracay, still your point of entry to the world famous resort island is in Aklan. A seaport in addition to the airstrip, the Caticlan Airport (only handles smaller planes originating from several domestic airports) are located in Caticlan, the closest town to Boracay. From Caticlan, motorized bancas or outrigger boats are available at the port jetty which then will take you for a short ride straight to Cagban, a small pier in Boracay. Another entry point to Boracay is in Kalibo where a larger airport that handles larger aircrafts is situated but the drawback is that you have to take a minivan or bus ride for about an hour and a half (at least) to the port of Caticlan. The most cost-effective way yet the longest travel time to get to Boracay from Manila is through the "Strong Republic Nautical Highway" and this is recommended for the more adventurous travelers who is looking forward to see more of the country before finally retreating to Boracay. Travelling through the "Nautical Highway" either by commuter bus or with your own car or rental cars offers a sightseeing opportunity in Batangas, and the islands of Mindoro and Panay. The "Nautical Highway" is a combination of overland highways and Roll-on, Roll-off or RoRo vessels to link the islands. Accommodations Accommodations ranging from budget inns to luxurious hotels and resorts are spread all over the island. Bed rentals are also available from homes of local residents at a much cheaper price. Whatever your budget is, you won't be disappointed, since you could always find suitable place to stay in Boracay. During peak periods such as Holy Week, Christmas and New Year, rooms availability are limited and the rates are higher, so it is advisable to book in advance. And to get the cheapest room rates, always book directly to the hotel rather than travel agents.
