St. George's, Grenada

It was one hot day in St. George’s yesterday. Temperature had reached to as high as 34 degrees Celsius at noon time, about 7 degrees up from the 27 degrees Celsius that we had earlier in the morning when we arrived. Since the ship calls this port not very often, so I did not find any reason not to go out and simply throw away this very rare opportunity to wander around this picturesque town and tourist center in the southwestern coast of Grenada. Saint George’s is the capital of this tiny Caribbean island country of Grenada, an independent country in the West Indies. Situated at the southernmost tip of the Windward Islands, the country consists of Grenada and several smaller islands. St. George’s is main sea port of Grenada as well. A Visit to Kuna Indian Village in Panama

After that fantastic crossing through the Panama Canal, the ship headed towards Carti Island, one of the islands of San Blas archipelago along the northern shore of Panama. These islands are popular stopover for cruise ships leaving or entering the Panama Canal. San Blas islands are inhabited by the fiercely independent native settlers, the Kuna Indians. Kuna Indians over the years guarded their cultural identity, shun tourism development and passionately maintained their customs and culture, language, legends, music and dance. Transit at Panama Canal

This is M/S Black Watch inside Miraflores Locks waiting for these gates to open fully before proceeding to the next lock, the Pedro Miguel Locks. Earlier this morning, we were at the Pacific Ocean side and crossed the mountainous terrain of Panama to get to the Atlantic Ocean. Without the Panama Canal, the ship has to take the long navigation around South America and spend few days at sea to get to the Atlantic Ocean side. Practically, the ship saved fuel and trimmed down voyage time to just 10 to 12 hours. Read more...
